One of the spaces I decorate frequently in our casa is the fireplace mantel in the living room. We spend a lot of our time in our living room and when you see the same thing over and over new gets old very quickly. To keep things looking fresh, I create new vignettes every six-to-eight weeks, or at least try to.
Here is a sneak-peek of my a look I am currently working on between my other projects.
Black tapers in brass and crystal candlesticks.
I love the eclectic feel to this little vignette. A mix of styles, colors and materials. I love the effect of the black tapers.
At some point I want to find art to replace the mirror but, for now, this thrifted $14 find lets me change things around easily.
During the holidays, I painted the frame a candy red.
For my new look, I am thinking of painting the frame black. Here is where I need your help.
Should I-
a. paint it black
b. paint it another color. white or bright yellow, perhaps? feel free to suggest one.
c. leave it the way it is.
Help me decorate this space.
mucho gracias.

A happier color since spring is on its way ( I wish, LOL!!-but at least you can fool your eyes into believing it till those daffodils break ground?)
I love your idea of painting it white. It would blend nicely with the fireplace and you could then add some fun brightly colored accessories to spice it up!
I’d paint it more like a charcoal (http://chicagolandmetalroofing.com/images/stories/colors/roof-color-charcoal-grey.jpg)
or a dark blue gray colour (http://www.corkfloor.com/images/SlateGray100sq.jpg)
and use other objects with bright colours around it. That way, you can have a beautiful vase of poppies or something bright, and it won’t compete for the space, their colour will instead pop out against the background.
I’d add something like:

Show us photos when you’re done, i’d love to see the finished product 🙂
You should paint it black, it would contrast beautifuly.

Hi darling,
Hmmmmm…. I am not a red girl. So… either stay neutral – white or gray. Or go for a (different!) pop of color. Yellow? Purple? Navy blue? Or teal? Teal is nice against white. But of course everything needs to work with the rest of the room.
I really was not of much help, was I?
But knowing you – whatever you decide, I am going to want to copy (expept red, ha!).
Love to you & happy weekend!
Mon
I am totally loving your spanish!!! way to go girl! 😉
I would paint it white or yellow, you know, getting cheerful for spring!!
Hello my dear and sorry for my absence. xx
I love your vignettes and creativity. Your sense for colour and contrast is always brilliant!
I immediately thought of a pale gold when I saw the mirror.. It rang true to the elegance and lightly glamorous style, and I think that could be a nice way of creating a ‘base’ for any vignette changes in the future.
Can’t wait to see what you come up with.
Best of luck and don’t forget to show us the end result.
Big hugs
xx Charlotta
P.S. The notebook is sitting next to me right now. xx
