Last week I was in Dubai, UAE. The purpose of my visit was primarily to spend time with my parents. My father is recovering from a health set-back and I was really glad to be with them. For me, time with family is precious and never enough. And it doesn’t help when you are thousands and thousands of miles from them. This time my trip coincided with my birthday and Diwali, a major India holiday. So we made the best of it all.
Dubai as you may know is constantly changing and growing. Construction cranes and noise from drilling is everywhere. But if you can push past that, there are some remarkable places to see. Everything is upscale and grand. My first stop was the Palm Jumeriah. You may have heard of three Palm tree shaped man-made islands being constructed in Dubai. The Palm Jumeirah is the first of the trilogy to be near complete. Some of the gorgeous homes here have been occupied and the famous Atlantis resort opened their doors here in late September.
My design inspiration came from the various light fixtures that I came across. Some very unique and some traditional. And yes I accept that I am obsessed with hanging light fixtures, chandeliers, candles, lanterns…… In case you haven’t noticed :-). I find them oh soo irresistible and festive.
This first three images are from a boutique in the Atlantis resort. I spent a lot of time just admiring this light fixture. I tried to find out who the designer was but all I found out was it is a Lebanese designer. If any of you happen to know the designer, let me know. I found the placement of four of these together even more appealing.

Villa living at the Palm Jumeirah
One of my favorite hotels in the world. An obvious choice for high-tea on my birthday. My photography skills, or the lack thereof, don’t do justice to any of these gorgeous Middle-Eastern lantern-like pendant lights. Mostly metallic and stained glass, the work on some of these is intricate and very Arabian nights. I want one for every room in my house. And then some.

THE ONE
The One is a lifestyle/ interiors store in Dubai. They don’t have much of a presence online, so I tried my best to take decent pictures in their store. The first thing I thought of when I saw this was room divider that is so easy to DIY. Fairy lights and some buttons. Of course, you can expect step by step instructions on this one soon. I think this curtain made of fairy lights would be so fairytale like in bedrooms.
I fell in love with these metallic pod chandeliers. Silver hanging and table lamps with intricate patterns. They had just arrived in the store that day. I couldn’t move away from them. And guess what?? I got one as a birthday present from my parents, along with a bunch of other awesome accessories. I can’t wait to hang the small one in my dining room.
As for the other presents and accessories that I mentioned, well you wont have to wait too long. And there is a surprise. Wait for it.
